These are the organizations I come across in my research who are doing interesting things in the API space. They could be companies, institutions, government agencies, or any other type of organizational entity. My goal is to aggregate so I can stay in tune with what they are up to and how it impacts the API space.

Intel Open Source

01.org is where we pull together open source work that Intel engineers are involved in. Here’s where you can find projects we maintain and contribute to in one location, from the most widely known, the Linux kernel, to very focused projects, like oFono and SyncEvolution, to the ones we started here at Intel and provide full hosting for, like PowerTop and the Web Simulator. Each project has its own micro-site, where it’s easy to learn about the project and engage in the community. And Intel open source maintainers and developers will find all the tools needed to host a project.

FluidMesh

Fluidmesh was founded in 2005 by a team of researchers and visionaries from the Massachusetts Institute of Technology (MIT) and the Politecnico of Milan. Our goal was to reliably deliver fiber-like performance via unlicensed wireless spectrum – providing connectivity for mission critical video, voice, and data.

OpenDaylight Project

OpenDaylight is an open platform for network programmability to enable SDN and NFV for networks at any size and scale.  The community’s second release “Helium” comes with a new user interface and a much simpler and customizable installation process thanks to the use of the Apache Karaf container.

Fairwaves

Fairwaves make rural mobile coverage profitable. We have built a unique technology that significantly lowers the cost of deploying and operating mobile networks in rural regions. Fairwaves is gaining a footprint in the telecommunications space by helping Mobile Network Operators (MNO) to roll out mobile networks to reach up-to 1.6 billion new customers.

Kentik

Based in San Jose, California Ubiquiti manufactures wireless data communication products for enterprise and wireless broadband providers with a primary focus on under-served and emerging markets. Such brands include airMAX & airFiber for Outdoor Wireless, UniFi series of managed wired & wireless networking products, as well as sunMAX Grid-tied, complete solar kits.

AvantLink

Team Skimlinks

Skimlinks is a London-based company started in 2006. Their key products are SkimLinks, a simplified affiliate marketing tool for publishers, and SkimWords, a product that turns product references into monetizable shopping links. SkimLinks converts existing links into affiliate marketing links, and SkimWords recognizes unambiguous product references in editorial and user-generated content, and turns these into unobtrusive shopping links that can earn the publisher money.

Facebook

Facebook is an online social networking service that allows its users to connect with friends and family as well as make new connections. It provides its users with the ability to create a profile, update information, add images, send friend requests, and accept requests from other users. Its features include status update, photo tagging and sharing, and more.

Google Spectrum Database

The Google Spectrum Database API provides PAWS-compatible JSON-RPC methods that allow devices to query the database to find available TV-band spectrum at a given geolocation.
